FAQs about our Pet Health for Life plan

How do I sign up to a plan?

You can sign up online here or in the practice. You can easily find our online sign up by scanning the QR code on our posters or leaflets. Alternatively, please speak to our team who would be happy to help.

Can I get a plan for my puppy or kitten?

Yes, the plan is available for puppies and kittens. If you are signing up online, please sign your kitten up to the “cat plan” or your puppy up to their expected adult weight dog plan. i.e. if you have a large breed puppy expected to reach over 25kg as an adult, sign them up to a “large dog plan”.

If your puppy doesn’t grow as expected, the plan can be adjusted.

Does the plan cover the healthcare for multiple pets?

The plan provides the annual preventative healthcare provision for one pet. If you have multiple pets, you will need to sign up each pet individually to receive the full benefits for each pet.

Is the plan also insurance?

No, the Pet Health for Life plan is not pet insurance. The plan is designed to provide your pet with the preventative healthcare they need for the year. We strongly advise all our clients to take out separate insurance for each of their pets to cover for illness or injury.

Can I pay annually instead of monthly?

Yes, we can set up an annual direct debit. Please ask our team when you sign up. This option is also available when you sign up online.

Can I use all the benefits on the day I join?

Yes, some benefits can be collected on the day of joining, however there is a limit to what can be given as outlined in the Terms Of Service. Please also be aware that the flea and worm products we provide on the plan are prescription only medications and as such are subject to veterinary approval. Your pet may require a check over with the vet before the product can be dispensed and veterinary appointments are subject to availability at the time of sign up.

Flea and worming treatments will be dispensed at regular intervals throughout the year and a maximum of 3 months’ treatment can be dispensed at any one time. This allows us to monitor your pet’s health and weight.

How will the direct debit appear in my bank statement?

We work with our technology partner, My Pet Portal (MPP), to administer the Direct Debit. Our practice is part of Linnaeus Veterinary Limited and your banking notification at the plan set up may display as such. Each transaction will show as “LinVet – Gower”.

Can I change the date my direct debit is collected?

Depending on the day you signed up to the first payment will be collected on either the 1st or 15th of the month. All subsequent payments are collected on 1st of the month. We cannot currently facilitate payments on different days in the month.

I haven’t collected all the products and/or services that I’m entitled to for my pet this year, can it be carried over until next year?

The Pet Health for Life plan is designed to provide the preventative healthcare your pet requires for the year. This is an annual subscription model and as such we cannot facilitate carrying over products to the following year.

We want to provide the best care for you and your pet and we have a reminder system available to contact you when your pet is due treatment. If you are not receiving this communication, please speak to our team.

I am relocating. Can I continue my plan at a different practice?

No, unfortunately it is not currently possible to transfer your plan to another practice.

If my pet becomes ill or is injured, will this be covered by the plan?

The Pet Health for Life plan is designed to provide the preventative healthcare your pet requires for the year. The plan does include two veterinary consults and therefore the cost of the vet seeing and assessing your pet may be covered with the plan. However, any treatment required for illness or injury is not included in the plan and will be an additional charge.

The plan is not an insurance policy and should not be used as a replacement or alternative to pet insurance. We recommend that you take out pet insurance separately to cover for such occurrences. Please speak to the practice for more information.

I have a complaint/query. Who should I contact?

Please contact the Office or Practice Manager of the practice here.

There is a problem with my Direct Debit. What should I do?

Please contact the Office or Practice Manager of the branch. Get in touch with us here.

Whatever their age, annual health checks are an important part of your pet’s healthcare routine. Our pets are unable to tell us when they are feeling poorly so regular checks by your vet team are recommended to ensure they stay fit, happy and healthy and so we can spot signs of any issues sooner rather than later. We’ll work with you to provide the best advice and treatment.

FAQ's

How can I make an appointment for a health check?

You can call us at our Swansea practice to book an appointment, at a time to suit you.

How often should my pet have a health check?

It really depends on the individual pet. For most, a health check can be combined with your annual booster appointment although if you haven’t seen us in a while, it’s advisable to book a health check at least once a year so we can provide the best options for you in terms of re-starting vaccinations, general health and parasite control. Regular health checks will also help us to spot the signs of any problems sooner.

Do you offer a preventative healthcare plan that covers essential services and treatments?

Yes, we have our Pet Health for Life Plan which covers routine healthcare such as vaccinations, annual health checks, parasite control and more. Click here to find out more and to sign up today.

What happens during a health check appointment?

One of our vets or nurses will check your pet’s skin, eyes, ears, paws, teeth and gums and chat to you about any changes to their daily routine so that we can provide the best healthcare advice and identify any concerns as soon as possible. We’ll talk you through some advice for home care and may also recommend additional treatments or services as a result.

As we head into the summer months, what will my vet be looking for?

We often see an increase in skin diseases and in particular flea cases, as warmer conditions are ideal for flea pupae to hatch. Now would be a good time to check you are up to date with your parasite treatment. As we start to head outdoors and enjoy the warmer weather with our pets, our team will also discuss additional vaccinations with you to ensure your pet is protected against diseases like kennel cough which affects dogs.

*Health check will be charged at our standard consultation rate. Any additional services or treatment will be charged separately.

We recognise that cats are unique creatures with specific needs and it’s important to us to demonstrate our commitment to the animals you entrust into our care. Working with International Cat Care (iCC), we have looked at how we can make Gower Vets the best it can possibly be for our feline patients.

Cats by their nature are sensitive to changes in their environment, and by understanding and accepting this we can recommend measures to make your cat’s journey to the vets, and their visit to Gower Vets a less stressful experience than anticipated.

In order to achieve our silver Cat Friendly Clinic accreditation, we have had to meet carefully selected criteria as stipulated by iCC. We have demonstrated that we:

  • Understand the needs of cats and strive to make visits to the vet clinic cat friendly
  • Approach and handle cats gently and with care through ongoing staff education
  • Follow the ISFM Feline Friendly Handling and Nursing Care guidelines and have made the pledge to be ‘Scruff free’
  • Have invested in equipment to manage the specific care requirements of cats
  • Have an appointed Cat Advocate member of staff to implement and oversee our cat friendly clinic status

As a Silver Standard Cat Friendly Clinic, we are trained to handle cats in a manner that minimises stress, fear and anxiety, as well as advising you on the best way to safely and comfortably transport your cat to Gower Vets.

We have in-house cat advocates – SVN Talis Jones, RVN Lauren Williams and Vet Jenny Hopkins – who are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have, and to provide information and advice on caring for your cat.

Our cat friendly facilities include:

  • A separate cat waiting area. There are raised areas on which to place your cat carrier which will be away from areas where other animals may be waiting. There is also a visual barrier to give the cats an extra sense of security
  • The use of feline pheromone diffusers to help calm and reassure
  • A quiet, well equipped consulting room suitable for cats to feel calm in
  • A range of equipment such as blood pressure monitors and cat specific weighing scales to provide a high level of care to our feline patients
  • A hospitalisation ward where there is a visual barrier between the cat and other species. We provide comfortable, soft bedding and cat igloos or perch and hide boxes to allow your cat privacy during their stay with us
  • Facilities for surgery, dentistry, lab testing and diagnostic imaging are available to allow procedures to be performed to a high standard of care for feline patients

If you have any questions regarding the facilities and care we provide for your cats, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
